Carlos Beltran, the producer for my upcoming short screenplay, suggested that I start creating vlog posts to support the project. And last night Bethany, my amazing writer friend from school, commented on how many “irons in the fire” I have. So, I’ve reached a point in my career where I have a lot of projects going on at once, and I hear this “blogging” thing is awful popular, so I figure I should at least give it a try.

For starters, I’m going to give a quick run down on what I’m working on.

Novel – I’m 30 pages into my first novel. I’d classify it as a cyberpunk/dystopian/surrealist/struggle for a better future sort of beast. I love my protagonist; he’s a tough, ex-druggie exterior with a really neurotic inside. I’m also participating in NaNoWriMo, so I should have 50K words by the end of the month, though I intend for the novel to be longer than that.

Stage Play – After my 10 minute play “Confessions” went so well (I’ll have a link up to the performance recording soon), I’m pretty psyched to finish up my one-act. It’s set in a mental hospital, but I try to high light the fact that everyone has a little bit of crazy in them – not just the patients. First draft will be done by Thanksgiving, final in December.

Screenplay – Just got started on this today! Met with Carlos, and we’re looking for a short film of 7-10 minutes. Since I have the most experience with short stories, I’m comfortable with that time frame. This will be my first film credit, so I can’t wait to get going. Brainstorming will ensue. It should take about two months to gather the crew, shoot it, and finish post-production.

I’ll try to update my progress every MWF. If I don’t have much to report, I might toss a poem at ya, or a piece of short fiction. For now, go check out the cool kids’ links I mentioned earlier.

I’m back in writing workshops and working at my university newspaper as a columnist. I’m still settling in to the new routine, but after the first few weeks I plan to start updating every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Be sure to drop in to get some insight on what I’m reading, writing, and learning, plus samples of poetry and short fiction (text & podcast!).
